Minding the Store

At a place just like this.

For a while this past week the Frau was running a hotdog stand at one of the busiest intersections in the country.

She had just emerged from a large department store, felt a tad peckish and decided to grab herself a dog. While ordering the dog she engaged the vendor in pleasant chit-chat because..well…she engages everyone in pleasant chit-chat. This is one of her many strengths. It’s also why you can never leave anywhere with her on time. At some point the vendor, who suddenly has to use a washroom, asks the Frau if she will watch the stand in her absence because , apparently,  the vendor needs someone they can trust. Angie absolutely oozes trust. She agrees to man the stand.

But the vendor is away a bit longer than Angie had bargained for and now hungry people are beginning to stack up on the street. They have limited time. They want a hotdog. They want something to drink. This is analogous to the situation of trying to save several adjacent seats in a movie theatre and you have to keep shooing people away. It’s also vaguely reminiscent of a scene from I Love Lucy.

But Angie/Lucy is unfazed. She starts transacting….mind you, for exact change only.

So while I’m ensconced in a distant boardroom having flights-of-fancy television talk…my wife is briefly working a hotdog stand in downtown Toronto.

You can’t make this stuff up.

  1. GO GIRL!!

  2. I hope the guy washed his hands before returning. Sounds like he may have had
“an issue” in more ways than one. Probably two.

    Did he offer any reward?

  3. How funny. She sounds like a wonderful, kind lady.

  4. Kirsten Says:

OMG….that is too funny! Go Angie! Kirsten 🙂

  5. I have heard the praise you’ve given Angie any number of times in days gone by–this is testament to what a wonderful person she is. Lucky guy!
